Man Commits Suicide Over Gambling

The body of a twenty five year old man was Wednesday found in a borehole within his homestead a day after his family reported him missing.
The deceased whose name police gave as Samuel Oswea was found in a three feet borehole within his plot by his neighbours after his wife Julia Waruguru of Komu village within Kiganjo location reported that she was suspicious that her husband might have harmed himself after a betting mission went sour.
Confirming the incident, the Thika West sub county OCPD , Paul Karobia said that the wife of the deceased reported the matter to Makongeni Police Station after waking up in the morning and not finding him in bed and attempts to get through his phone was futile as his calls went un answered as he had left his phone in the house.
He said that the wife revealed that her husband who was a plant operator at a local manufacturing company was a betting fanatic and had recently taken to face book seeking for friend’s advice on ways of committing suicide.
“Neighbours are attesting that he was a troubled man in his marriage and that he had wanted to commit suicide for quite some time especially after he lost some money in a betting escapade,” revealed Karobia.
The OCPD called on the youth to be careful when engaging themselves in betting missions for it has ruined many lives as people have lost a lot of money to the craze.
“Beware of betting and take care not to get too much into it since people have lost a lot of money and others end up committing suicide. People have lost a lot of money to these betting craze and they end up frustrated and losing it all,” said Karobia.
The OCPD stated that police have launched investigations into the case. Samuel has left behind his wife and a one year old child.
The body was taken to General Kago Funeral Home.

A 27-year-old man identified as Meshack Keith Bwisa, has been found dead after being declared missing since December 25.

The deceased said to be an employee of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) — registry department — in Kakamega, was found after his relatives went over to his house to look for him as they prepared to celebrate the New Year festivity as a family.

The police was invited over after they knocked and found that the door was locked from the inside. Charcoal ashes were found on the floor, suggesting that Bwisa died from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Kakamega Central OCPD, David Kabena revealed that the deceased left a note blaming his unsuccessful bets for his decision to commit suicide.

He said;

“The body had swollen and decomposed. It is likely Bwisa died on the night of December 25, 2019.

“There was a suicide note placed next to his body.

In the letter, Bwisa blamed frustrationsarising from unsuccessful bets as the reason for his suicidal ideation.

In the note, he also advised the youth and his family members to refrain from betting, saying it ends up impoverishing people.”
